Consume/d
Consume/d is an exploration of the perceived separation between humans and nature in Western culture. We exist within the earth’s ecosystem, yet we act as though our actions are free from the collective experience of the natural world. What has fostered this disconnection? What has led to this disruption?
ARTIST STATEMENT: Zoe Nicholson is an interdisciplinary graphic designer and artist. Her work analyzes human nature through the lens of interconnection to explore social, environmental, and economic issues. Through a fusion of text and image, each piece is commanded by subversive ideas.
Influence includes writers Allen Ginsberg, Kurt Vonnegut, Raymond Carver, and Terry Tempest Williams; multimedia artists Jenny Holzer, Judy Chicago, and Barbara Kruger; musical poets Haley Heynderickx, Julia Jacklin, Lady Lamb, and Nai Palm.
Nicholson’s band, Tasteful Nudes, self produced their debut album, “Growing Pains”. It is a collaborative, conceptual exploration of interpersonal relationships, self-identity, and societal corruption. The ten original songs are now available on all streaming services.
PROFESSIONAL DIRECTION/CAREER ASPIRATION: In my future I will be working for a sustainable graphic design company, backpacking around the world and digging in the dirt, writing tunes, and making art that makes an impact.
SAMPLE OF PAST WORKS: My Body Is a Mountain, Dissociation, When My House Keys Become a Weapon, Growing Pains
